Originally shown at the Da Silva Gallery for the Open Source Art Festival, the Undue Burden exhibit travels from New Haven to Bridgeport in March, during International Women’s Month with the addition of work by kHyal and Joan Fitzsimmons. Poster art presents artists’ expressions advocating for women’s rights, including access to contraceptives, abortion rights, the right to choose and healthcare support for women and their children. Proceeds to benefit Planned Parenthood of Southern Connecticut. The term Undue Burden comes from the Constitution. The undue burden standard is a constitutional test fashioned by the Supreme Court of the United States. The test, first developed in the late 19th century, is widely used in American constitutional law.[1] In short, the undue burden standard states that a legislature cannot make a particular law that is too burdensome or restrictive of one’s fundamental rights.Curator Linda Lindroth is an artist and writer who lives and works in New Haven, CT.
