The Sound of Plastic

Artists Respond Grant for Environmental Justice Community Project

Thank you to the Connecticut Office of the Arts for awarding me an Artists Respond grant in 2024 to extend my work “The Sound of Plastic” to include an environmental justice community project in 2024, which included a month-long series of workshops with kids at the Wakeman Boys and Girls Club Madison Avenue Clubhouse in Bridgeport. This was a custom curriculum around environmental issues including horseshoe crab conservation and marine debris at Seaside Park which is within an environmental justice community where vulnerable populations are also subject to being in flood zones and exposed to air and water pollution.

This iteration of The Sound of Plastic was made possible with the support of the Department of Economic and Community Development, Office of the Arts, which also receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
